Paddling border Muggia (I) - Izola (Slovenia)
We wondered often in coastal paddling and chatting with Bepomarangon and others if he should "catch up" missed the event due to weather, we're talking about paddling Muggia-Ankara , scheduled for April 2010 and May 2011.
Until one fine day we agreed in unison
"The border was made paddling!"
At the appointed hour and day, Wednesday 24 at 09.30, taking advantage of the heat wave weather stability, a small handful of paddlers we are gathered in the S. Rocco, Muggia, meet the "names" by Luca G., AntonioPN, Huck, Bepomarangon and Jan, the writer. After loading the kayaks food, and various high-tech equipment (corrugated tube landing, anchor lithoid suspension, etc..), A generous spread of sunscreen overprotective and so, in water! ![]()
Punta Sottile and Punta Grossa were dubbed in a short time and then the first stop en (clear water too hot) and consultation of the chart. The look, however, was attracted by a country on the coast in the distance, was Izola.
Now, of-thumb on the paper, we measured the distance between us it was about 4 km, but without focusing directly on the coast ... bell.
Broken! There was a ship packed with containers on our way so we approached the crossing with a certain apprehension ("but it moves slowly or anchored?"). Another concern snaked "but we are so distant from the coast ... and if we stop, and if ...?", But was immediately silenced the authoritativeness of Bepomarangon: "What do you want him to fool us coast guard Slovenian , nema problem! Come on mo! "
About the middle of crossing the apprehension is lessened, and has given way to a feeling, so to speak, move the body, given by the sight of a patrol boat out of Koper Slovenia that has deviated from its original course puntandoci unequivocally . We slowed down, almost to a stop, and each of us in those few minutes of prayer I have thought of intimate apology, Marian prayers and intercessions, perhaps by uttering in Slovenia ... and who knows how, by mouths that know me just say "ena velika Toceno pivo "!
At some point, the patrol boat, perhaps as a result of the prayers, perhaps because they only wanted to have fun, he changed course again, away, with great relief we resumed paddling.
Once in Izola , after being refreshed at the beach, we did a small tour of the city, climbing through the narrow streets to the church (almost a "grace received") as any good tourists.
In return, staging technique, unfailing and bathroom, to Ankara and souvenir photo in front of what looked like a paramilitary camp wilderness and instead is the local Kajak Klub.
Our GPS (Greater and Lesser spans) says that we have covered a total of about 25 km.
