Kayak Tour in Punta Sdobba (Foci Isonzo)

I had promised myself to go and explore the mouth of ' Isonzo area, but did not know if there were landing in water handy to put the kayak.

I started down the drive down the right bank of ' Isonzato . First attempt near the barracks of the Guardia di Finanza. In fact, there is a "slip", but is dotted with mussel shells and then eat it seems too distant from the mouth of the Isonzo. Following the special road signs, to the continuation of the Regional Natural Reserve Caneo. I expect something organized as in val Cavanata or Cona , but ... surprise! A wood-clad building, designed as a bar, restaurant and hotel, with beautiful tower and glass, partially furnished, built with the contributions of the European Union, is in a state of neglect, but at least the windows are not broken.

I forwarded over the reeds (hence the name of the reserve) for a nature trail that leads along the river, but it is overrun with brambles and many axes of the wooden walkway is broken. Better change of air ... With the bitterness and anger at the waste of public money, I go (always in the car) to Punta Sdobba. A little 'fishing village before it starts a tangle of narrow canals, amid the reeds and wild infinity. There are boats moored to the good, some with a roof of luck. In one of these mini-seater boat I can easily ditch the kayak.

Once out of the reeds, we find ourselves in the midst of 'Isonzo, about a mile from the mouth. The river is now very broad. In the background the coast of Trieste, the Slovenian Karst, the mountains of the wilderness Tarnova and more up to the Holy Mountain . Brackish water floats a young jellyfish. Wherever waterfowl that can not be photographed, because they are too slow to extract the camera.

At the exit into the sea in view extends even to the bank and Fossalon Grado Pineta. I came back and I go up the river for a couple of miles, past the ghosts of the Reserve Caneo, hitting up to the intersection (pardon the confluence) with the Isonzo Isonzato. The dolphins at n.510 indicates the direction, Trieste (where I come) and Venice (the other side, to the left) at the beginning of 'Isonzato (classified as a channel and not as a river) a notice calls for reducing the speed 12 km / h, I do not have these problems. The landscape is almost monotonous, reeds and reed beds on the right and left, waterfowl and rare motorboats.

I just have to go down the 'Isonzato and then the' Isonzo, promising myself to continue the exploration on another occasion.

At the village of Punta Sdobb landed without difficulty at the beginning and the exploration of the village on foot. Along the only street after the bridge is lined up about twenty homes modest and equal, in the small harbor with many dock are moored fishing boats and pleasure boats. And yet a few other houses, in one such meeting Mrs. Degrassi with her husband, the only permanent inhabitants of the place.
